* On the first day of the week the Holy Spirit came on the apostles, the gospel was first preached as being in effect, people first obeyed the gospel, and the church began. All this occurred on Pentecost, which was a first day of the week (Acts chap. 2; cf. Lev. ,16).
The second of these rules is necessarily adopted by all those who advocate the sacredness of the first day of the week.
For the writings of the fathers and the traditions of the church furnish all the testimony which can be adduced in support of that day.
